Aloha Maui-Host Paet Families
Countdown to reunion approaches with overwhelming responses to attend our 1st family reunion. When the committee first met in July 2022, planning the reunion was primarily for the immediate Paet families on Maui who are descendants of Ildefonso & Gregoria Fontanilla Paet, and our parents Maximo, Zacarias, Juana, Teodorico & Felipe, Arsenia and our beloved lelong Leandro. Instigated and urgings by Roger Cainglit (Paet/Osalvo), son of Arsenia Paet Osalvo, is onw reason we started to plan for a reunion. At uncle Teodorico’s funeral gathering in December 2015, Roger remembered information was being gathered for a Paet family tree and maybe one day have a family reunion. Roger and his lovely wife, Arnella, would fly from Oahu to attend the monthly meetings on Maui. We thought lucky if we had 100 people attend, but it would be a good start. We wanted to honor our matriarch Gregoria, maiden name Fontanilla, and decided to invite the immediate families on her side. With assistance from Jasmine Fontanilla on Oahu and through word of mouth, Facebook, our website, emails, texts, and other means of contact, word got out that we were having this reunion. The numbers were dismal because families were slow to register as it got closer to the May 31 deadline. The committee made phone calls to their immediate families to spread the word and encouraged them to register by the deadline, even by the extended June 15 deadline. We now have 236 people registered for this reunion and we are now working feverishly to get everything in place for everyone. Bernard and I are very grateful and thank our faithful committee members for their commitment, hard work and being at all the fun mini-reunion meetings to make this event possible.
